If an IC plot may, for example, somehow set multiple Arbors at war with each other, it should be discussed and weighed OOCly for mutual community approval as such a plot will impact everyone.

-  * Communication is //essential//. Arborous is founded and relies upon sincere trust with every member of our community. If something, or someone, makes you uncomfortable or raises concerns, please do not hesitate to mention it.
-  * Tell people when IC and OOC intentions diverge. Characters often act and say things that do not convey the actual feelings of the people controlling them. When a character acts especially mean, dismissive, or signals that they hate or wish to end an interaction with another character, please clarify whether those IC thoughts and feelings are shared OOCly. It will prevent misunderstandings and help maintain healthy, open communication.
-  * Respect private roleplay, however, do not be unnecessarily exclusionary. Privacy is a common and essential aspect of roleplay. There are countless acts and scenarios that may be best reserved for private roleplay, however, do not build a habit of excluding others. If a roleplay may be public, please make it so. This is a community, after all, and it's more fun to get others involved!
-  * Read the room. Certain roleplay scenes and moments are set with specific tones, and you should not disrupt those themes. Do not barge into a sad or dramatic scene with your own, unrelated intrigue, and do not ruin a happy scene by suddenly dropping tragedy.

-  * Godmodding is the act of taking absolute control of a scene. It is something that heavily redirects the course of a scene and removes the ability for others to properly act or react. For example, if your character instantly overpowers another without providing them an opportunity to resist, you are godmodding. Every action should allow for others to react to, and potentially prevent, your action. You should rely on actions that use "tries" and "attempts". Success is not guaranteed, and an opportunity for more action and roleplay benefits all.
-  * Powergaming is the act of intentionally designing a character or circumstance to make yourself as strong as possible. This often relies on abusing OOC systems and metagaming. For example, if you see an Arbor's BBEG has a variety of weaknesses and flaws, and then you create or change your character to perfectly counter most or all of them, you are powergaming. Characters should not be designed to "win". They are meant to exist for storytelling and to overcome challenging odds.
-  * Metagaming is the act of using knowledge that //you//, OOCly, know, but //your character//, ICly, does not know. We at Arborous allow metagaming to a certain extent, as it often proves useful and convenient by organizing roleplay and learning basic things that a character genuinely living in the world of Arborous may know. It proves against the rules, however, when it gets abused to grant yourself and your character explicit advantages. If, for example, you OOCly know that a party of characters are being chased by a monster, and you set your character up to "conveniently and obliviously" be wandering up ahead, armed and armored, you are metagaming. If you OOCly learn that a certain character is conducting evil schemes, and your character then somehow instantly suspects and acts upon it, you are metagaming.
-. Consent and Mature Content: Consent is of utmost priority in Arborous. While we have established a list of legal standards, if something the rules allow makes you uncomfortable, please do not hesitate to make it known so that others may accommodate.
-  * Characters may not be permanently injured, scarred, maimed, or killed without the person controlling them's consent. This applies to all characters, be they Narrator, Helper, or Player.
-  * The following content may be, objectively, depicted to mild and //reasonably// moderate degrees: Blood, guts, physical and psychological torture, and sexually suggestive content.
-  * The following content is banned, yet, if those in a scene mutually consent to it occurring, may fade to black or take it to private messages: Gore, intense physical and psychological torture, and explicit sexual content.
